Suburban Plaza in DeKalb County has won a major award for the design of its upcoming redevelopment.

The 2016 Regional Redevelopment Award was presented to local officials at the Metro Atlanta Redevelopment Summit on Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The annual summit brings together more than 200 developers, commercial real estate brokers, elected officials, business leaders and community development experts to discuss industry trends in the metro Atlanta area.

Longtime Atlanta real estate company Selig Enterprises, known for intown Atlanta projects as varied as the sleek 12th & Midtown towers to the neighborhood pub Manuel’s Tavern, is launching a 500-acre mixed-use project in LaGrange, Ga.

Selig Enterprises has just landed Madison, Wis.-based Great Wolf Lodge to bring a $170 million hotel and indoor water park to 45 acres of the project, about an hour southwest of Atlanta. Now, Selig Enterprises is revealing plans for the rest of the development that would include a 300,000-square-foot outlet center, and a 200,000-square-foot village with a grocery store, restaurants, hotels and office space.

The project includes 247 acres on the north side of Interstate 85 and 305 acres to the south. The outlet center and village will create an open-air, pedestrian-oriented development a five-minute walk from Great Wolf’s project, the developers said.

On March 8, project architect Niles Bolton Associates presented plans to the Midtown Development Review Committee.

Called “The Standard,” the project would replace an existing Starbucks and the former Spring4th Complex, which included venues such as Quad.

The project would include 280 apartments (a mix of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom units) and 11,200 square feet of commercial space.

A Starbucks coffee shop would anchor the street-level retail with a drive-thru lane accessible from 4th street.

The project could break ground this summer, with the first units delivering around summer 2018.

Among its amenities, the tower would feature a fitness center, study rooms, gaming lounge and bike lockers. It would also have outdoor terraces, balconies and a pool.

Green Street Properties plans to bring on Selig Enterprises Inc. as equity partner and co-developer of the Manuel’s Tavern renovation and mixed-use project.

The move comes about a year after the project was first announced, and it continues a surge of investment and development toward the city’s historic intown neighborhoods and near the Atlanta Beltline.

The deal could close this week.

Selig is a nearly 100-year-old family owned Atlanta real estate company with experience developing large mixed-use projects on Peachtree Street, such as 12th & Midtown. It also owns intown neighborhood landmarks including Ansley Mall and Midtown music venue Smith’s Olde Bar. That experience made Selig Enterprises “a terrific partner for this development,” said Katharine Kelley, president of Green Street Properties.
